Abstract:

This research explores the intricate relationship between films and their soundtracks, focusing on how the relationship influences audience emotions, perceptions, and the classification of films as either "iconic" or "classic." This study employs a content analysis methodology, examining the top-grossing films from 1970 to 2010 to analyze trends in film music composition and audience reception. The research also delves into the psychological aspects of music, discussing how tempo, key signature, and pitch movement affect mood and memory. These findings suggest that while there may not be a direct statistical relationship between soundtracks and the iconic nature of films, there are significant trends that filmmakers and composers can leverage to enhance audience engagement and film impact. This research contributes to the understanding of the evolving nature of film as an art form and underscores the importance of adapting to innovative technologies and trends in music and sound design.
